Jordin Sparks is the youngest person to ever win American Idol. At just 17 years old, she blew audiences away during the 6th season of the long running show. Her rise to fame is an amazing story starting from her humble beginnings.

Jordin was born in December of 1989 in Phoenix, Arizona. Her parents say she has loved singing since she was a toddler and always wanted to express herself with music. Her father may have been a professional football player for the New York Giants, but she attended a small Christian school through eighth grade. During that time she was in several plays and singing every chance she got. In 2006, she decided to be homeschooled so she could focus more on her dream of singing and becoming a pop star.

Before starring on American Idol in 2007, she won several talent shows hosted by big names such as Colgate and Coke. She also was on America’s Most Talented Kids and sang the national anthem at many sporting events. She also tries to be a positive role model for young girls and was a featured model for Torrid’s plus size clothing line. She believes girls should be true to themselves and stay healthy instead of focusing on their weight or looks.

Jordin-s debut album has sold over 2 million copies and has had several singles make the Billboard Hot 100 list. Her chart topping songs include “Battlefield’ and “No Air’, which has sold more copies than any other single by an American Idol. In 2009, she was nominated for a Grammy award. Even today she still has a love of theater and has been in Tony award winning musical In The Heights.
